Anyone looking to explore a new art gallery can now visit DIFC’s Gate Building until June 30 for a unique art experience.
The newly-opened area showcases 50 sculptures in addition to multiple paintings created by local as well as international artists as a celebration of the UAE’s Golden Jubilee. These masterpieces were collected by different galleries from independent artists and different corners of Dubai, including Leila Heller Gallery, Firetti Contemporary and AWC Dubai.
To enter the park, visitors do not need to pay a fee; all they need to do is have their smartphones ready to scan the QR codes found under each artwork to learn all about its history. Art enthusiasts will get to witness a variety of works, from Erdil Yasaroglu’s sculpture called Tower of Rabbits which illustrates four rabbits stacked on top of each other to Emirati artist Azza Al Qubaisi’s clustered bronze forms that represent palm oases and solidarity among people.
As diverse as they are, all these pieces come together under one theme, which is Harmony of Different Voices: a celebration of UAE’s 50th year anniversary. The event is also a celebration of all the artists who have contributed at some point in the nation’s history.
Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed, chairwoman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, has succeeded in turning her vision into reality and encouraging public art in Dubai.
Arif Amiri, chie fexecutive of DIFC Authority has also stated, “As a part of our commitment to support Dubai’s art and culture vision, we are transforming DIFC into a unique sculpture park that will continue to shape the emirate’s open-air movement whilst attracting international artists to the centre.”
This open-air gallery isn’t Dubai’s first attempt to motivate artists and it sure isn’t going to be the last.
