Nike has recently launched its latest shoe design, a pair of slip-on sneakers that come without laces. Named the Nike GO FlyEase, the new shoes from Nike are being touted as the brand's first "hands-free" sneaker and are designed to be put on and taken off without any difficulty.
Inspired by Asian cultures where it is customary to remove shoes before entering a home, the “Go FlyEase” shoe is marketed as not requiring hands to put on and take off. The debut comes at a time when people are more conscious of not touching dirty surfaces, like the bottom of their shoes.
According to Nike, the shoe comes with a bi-stable hinge, enabling it to be secure in fully open and fully closed states while also maintaining smooth motion. This duality allows another signature detail: the Nike GO FlyEase tensioner. The tensioner’s unique flexibility super-charges an action many might take for granted (kicking-off a shoe) and completely reimagines this movement as basis for accessible and empowering design.
Champion fencer Bebe Vio, expressed his delight at the new development. “Usually, I spend so much time to get in my shoes,” says Vio. “With the Nike GO FlyEase, I just need to put my feet in and jump on it. The shoes are a new kind of technology, not only for adaptive athletes but for everyone's real life.”
The Nike GO FlyEase was released by invite to select Nike members this month on Feb. 15, with a wider release planned for later this year. The shoes will retail at $120.
