On February 22nd, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai,
announced the opening of the Museum of the Future. For the occasion, portraits of him were
projected onto the futuristic building followed by the calligraphy by Emirati artist Mattar Bin
Lahej.
During the unforgettable event, Sheikh Mohammed mentioned, “The museum will be a forum for
great minds, scientists, thinkers and experts from around the world” and he surely meant it!
Named one of the most beautiful buildings on Earth before it even opened, the new 77-metre-
tall structure features a mesmerizing experience that encompasses setups and exhibitions that
span everything from climate change, science and most importantly, technology.
Designers from different fields have come together to design the interior of the 30,000 square
metres that are spread across six exhibition floors, each one offering a different interactive
experience. However, building this innovative edifice wasn’t an easy task.
Due to its unconventional shape and the fact that it is enwrapped in calligraphy outlines, the
exterior was concocted using 1,024 pieces that were manufactured by automated robotic arms
and put into position over the course of 18 months. This beautiful shape is highlighted at night
with LED lights and surely includes sustainable systems such as solar energy and greywater
recycling systems to stand by the nation’s mission towards the planet.
You can visit The Museum of the Future everyday from 10am till 6pm by purchasing a ticket that
costs Dh145 ($39.5) for adults and is complimentary for children under the age of 3, people with
special needs and Emiratis aged 60 and older; just make sure you book a time slot ahead of
time.
