The 99 islands that overlook Shenzen’s Qianhai bay

Shenzen has welcomed a considerable number of gigantic constructions in the past few years. Sou Fujimoto Architects strike again with a tower, and not any tower, one that redefines its function. They sought a tower that interests people like the Eiffel tower does, that echoes “the future of society in an age of diversity”.
The vibrant proposal contains 99 separate towers and stands 268 meters long, towering above the Qianhai district. Every tower branches downward and has different lengths to represent today’s world diversity. The breathtaking concept looks like a huddle of islands suspended up in the air. It has an aerial and futuristic design that includes a viewing platform overseeing the bay, an exhibition space, a restaurant and a caffe.
Even though the project is still a proposal and will not see the light, but we couldn’t but imagine this beauty standing tall in real life. The vertical white strands emerging from the water resonates with the body of water on top of the tower that pumps jets of water. The team also took environmentally conscious actions like adding a rain water collection system and a wind turbine that generates electricity.
